The Christmas Prize Competition was held at Gowran Park and the following Gowran ladies took part and were in the prizes – very well done to all. Maura Coe, Kathleen Whitehead and Sarah Murphy.

Autumn Qualifier Final :
The Successful Autumn Qualifying Series comes to a conclusion this Friday when the final takes place with a shotgun start at 11 am. Competitors from various clubs throughout the South East have been contacted and are asked to register on site before 10.30 am ahead of golf. The presentation of prizes will take place immediately after golf. The final round of qualifying which took place last thurs and fri resulted in Kilkenny member Robert Kearney (11) securing the leading qualifying position with 39 pts while Gowran park members Joe Lannon along with John Skehan taking the remaining two spots.
Winter League :
The final round of the winter league (Puc Cup) took place on Saturday last. The competition coincided with this years Members Christmas Party and Presentations evening. After a shotgun start at lunchtime members enjoyed the course and after a competitive afternoon’s golf Lady Vice Captain’s, Anne Mullin’s team proved too strong and won the league by one point from John Barcoe’s team.
As this was one of the final presentations of the year Men’s Captain, Sean Kiely along with Lady Captain, Breda Bolger spoke of their appreciation to all the members for their support throughout the year. Special note of thanks from the two captains was given to their respective committees for all their hard work and dedication. Winners of the club matchplays were presented with their prizes. These included Bob Howat winning the club singles along with Enda and Nicky Cleere taking the fourball honours. Pat O’ Hara playing off 1 handicap proved the most consistent throughout the year and took the Golfer of the Year prize. Both Captains then wished all members a happy and peaceful Christmas and happy golfing over the Christmas period.
The final act of the evening was a member’s draw for those who had qualified from the popular Wednesday evening competition throughout the summer months. This resulted in a win for Thomastown man, Tom Dack who now receives a free subscription for next year’s golf.
Members 11 hole
Sundays competition was a members 11 hole singles. Some superb golf including three birdies by Seamus McKilleen scoring 30 points taking top spot while Larry Cleere playing off 6 took the runners up spot with 26pts. Michael Doyle took third place with 25pts. Next weekend sees an 11 hole competition over Sat & Sun for members.
Ladies Golf -
The Squirrels Alliance had their Christmas Prize Competition which was held in Gowran on Monday last. A large number of ladies from the south east braved the weather conditions and enjoyed a great days golf. Well done to the Gowran girls who featured in the prizes – Maura Coe, Kathleen Whitehead and Sarah Murphy. Very well done to all.

Christmas Championship:
Timesheets are now open for golf over the Christmas period. There will be a three person team event (Rumble, Scramble & Classic) run over the week after Christmas with 2 qualifiers each day being invited back for the final to take place on Saturday Jan 7th 2012. Members Celebrate Christmas
The final round of the Winter League (Puc Cup) is to be held on Saturday next. The competition will run in conjunction with this year’s Christmas Party. It will be run over 11 holes with a shotgun start to take place at 1.00 p.m. sharp. All competitors are asked to be on site from 12.30 p.m. to register for the competition. At this stage Ann Mullins team is leading the way with 209pts, John Barcoe’s team running second with 204 pts and in 3rd place Sean Kiely’s team with 201pts. However it’s all to play for this Saturday.
The evening will culminate with season festivities in the clubhouse. Prizewinners from the past number of weeks will be presented with their respective prizes to include “Golfer of the Year”, Club Matchplay – singles and 4 ball winners.

The weekly competition – 11 Hole Stableford was won by Eithne Byrne (36) with 23 points.
The Ladies Gala Scramble on Friday was a great success despite the rain and cold! The winners of the 9 hole scrambe were Deirdre Mc Cabe (16), Ger Hickey (21) and Eithne Donnelly (31) with 30.2nett. Well done to everyone for participating and thanks to Bernie & Pat at Gowran for putting on a really lovely meal afterwards.
The weekly competitions are now 9 holes and the main gala day is on this coming Saturday the 10th.
Autumn Qualifier
Last Thursday and Friday saw the penultimate round of the Autumn Series. Good scoring resulted in a tie within the competitors of 40 points. Tony Malone playing off 15 from Mountain View secured the leading qualifiers spot on countback, while Gowran Park member, Colm Corcoran playing off 7 along with Noel Cottrell (19) Mountain View took the other 2 remaining spots. Last round of this series takes place this week with a timesheet in play Thursday and Friday before the final to take place on Friday 16th December. All qualifiers will be contacted prior to this event detailing times etc.

Christmas Championship
This years’ competition is to be held over Christmas Week, commencing on Tuesday 27th December through to Saturday 31st December. The competition will be a 3 Person, men’s ladies or mixed format and two leading teams from each day will qualify for the final on Saturday January 7th 2012. Last year this competition proved very popular and with timesheets now open early booking is advised.
RESULTS:-
After an inclement weather break, our very popular Autumn Series Singles came back with a large entry last week. The competition resulted in a win for leading qualifier Richard Tierney, from neighbouring club, Mountain View, with a great score of 45 points. The 2 remaining qualifying spots went to Borris member Donal Kelly with 37 points along with our hardworking Club Captain Sean Kiely with 36 points. The competition continues this Thursday and Friday ahead of the final to take place on Friday 16th December.

Noel Kenny secured victory in this weekends 11 hole singles. Noel played great golf to score 27 points and win on a countback from Patrick Treacy who also had 27 points. A well deserved win for one of our most positive and popular golfers. 3rd place went Scott Daniel with 25 points.

The 2011 Golfer of the Year winner is Gay Latchford who has had a fantastic year of golf – she has also played in more competitions than anyone else in the club and is a hugely deserving winner. Gay ran away with the competition in the end – she was so far ahead of her nearest competitors (Ann Mullins and Sinead Kearney) that she actually won with a competition to spare! Very Well Done to Gay on a great achievement.
The Senior Match-play winner for 2011 is Sinead Gormley – it’s great to see Sinead back on the golfing circuit again and what a way to return! Great golf and a super win with tough opponents on the way.
The Junior Match-play winner for 2011 is Judy Dick – Judy has had a great year and is proving to be a really super golfer, she has displayed her ability to keep calm under pressure despite being a junior player and managed to beat all her other more seasoned opponents. Very well done Judy.
